KANDI NARSIMLU

Hyderabad, India

"My paintings portray the daily life and culture of the people of Telangana."

BIOGRAPHY

Artist Statement: Kandi Narsimlu

I hail from Kaslabad, a small village in Telangana’s Siddipet district, where life unfolds through rich, everyday moments. My art journey began with school sketches but truly took shape through painting signboards — an experience that gave me a lasting appreciation for bold lines, vibrant colors, and minimalist forms.

My work, at its core, is an intimate diary of rural life. I paint my father in his beedi and dhoti, eyes cast toward the fields where he toils; his silhouette represents generations of village men. My mother’s sari-inspired patterns find their way into the women I depict—shifting folds of fabric and traditional jewelry that echo the style of countless village women I grew up watching. These personal references anchor each canvas in authenticity.

Through my art, I capture the quiet rhythms of daily life — women exchanging conversations in the shade, men and women at the fields, or waiting at the dusty bus stop as life quietly unfolds.

Festivals and celebrations form another vital chapter of my story. I paint my family’s weddings—bride and groom beneath bright canopies—and the vibrant swirl of Bathukamma, where women carry stacked floral baskets in a dance-like procession. These communal rituals, alive with color and song, remind me how culture weaves us together. Through each painting, I strive to preserve these experiences before they slip from memory.

The vibrant colors of the temple deities — rich magentas, deep emeralds, and glowing saffron yellows — infuse my palette, bringing a sacred energy and warmth to everyday moments.

In a world where rural traditions are rapidly changing, my work serves as a visual archive, preserving the stories, emotions, and culture of Telangana’s villages. Each painting is not just a scene, but a memory, a celebration, and a tribute to the people who shaped me.

Through Paentio, a curated online gallery for contemporary Indian art, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in the spirit of rural Telangana.
