KANDI NARSIMLU

Hyderabad, India

"My paintings portray the daily life and culture of the people of Telangana."

BIOGRAPHY

Artist Statement: Kandi Narsimlu

I was born in Kaslabad, a village nestled in Telangana's Siddipet district, where my journey into art began unexpectedly through sketches for science class. Recognizing my talent, a teacher nurtured my passion, diverting my focus from my studies to the world of drawing and painting. By tenth grade, I was already immersed as a signboard artist.

My artistic approach remains grounded, infused with folk and rural themes yet contemporized with a minimalist touch reminiscent of animation styles. The geometric elements in my work hark back to my early days in signage.

My paintings capture everyday scenes of women and men engrossed in routine activities, their attire and adornments carefully detailed to convey movement and vitality. Inspired by the colorful deities worshipped in our village, I use vibrant hues to reflect the spiritual essence I see in our people. Simple and unadorned textures complement the innocence and sincerity of my subjects.

Amidst evolving fashion trends that veer away from tradition, I am dedicated to revitalizing our village's cultural allure through my art. I see myself as a chronicler of our heritage, tasked with preserving and celebrating our community's stories. Painting is my way of keeping our culture vibrant and relevant, a source of immense joy and fulfillment.

I am often told my paintings possess a certain breadth, a reflection of my deep connection to my people and their way of life. For me, each stroke is an ode to my culture, resonating with personal and collective memories that continue to inspire and enrich my artistic journey.
